Urban Development / Almr Apartments

Design Lead: Naming ·  Brand Identity · Web Design  · Signage

At the corner of NW 21st and Irving, UD+P has brought to life another project in Portland’s Historic Alphabet District, where active sidewalks and a vibrant blend of retail and residential have been the norm for decades. The name, developed to be representative of the historic Elm tree of which the construction took place around to preserve, and the brand element that drove the majority the design thinking. We were approached to create a fresh unique identity for this property. As design lead I was tasked with logo development, brand identity, a custom squarespace build, collateral and more.

The Logo

-

This organic design is a close crop of a customized lower-case “a” letterform where the serif of the “a” is replaced with a leaf shape. The mark also abstractly represents the tree and the street adjacent to the building itself. The logo mark is nature inspired, and the bold lines combined with a clean utilitarian sans-serif make for an adaptive combination mark.
